DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

The Progressive Country movement of the 1970s was the first of its kind, blending the musical styles of country & western, rock, jazz, and folk, with Austin, Texas, its legendary epicenter. Many talented musicians emerged from this decade and left their mark on Texas music history, but one singer-songwriter remains undersung yet was inimitable and essential to the movement as a whole: Steven Fromholz.

This documentary will honor a pioneering artist, activist, actor, writer, river guide and Poet Laureate, as a new audience discovers, and falls in love with “The Man with the Big Hat.”
